This module aims to apply the principles of ecological design and sustainable landscape management to a medium-large unit of urban greenspace, in this case a proposal for a new motorway service station on the M1.  

The integration of scientific ecological knowledge with creative design skills is central to the module.  Emphasis is placed on enhancing biodiversity through habitat creations and appropriate vegetation types, while at the same time catering for the needs of site users.  Emphasis is placed on the use of locally appropriate species and habitats. Particular focus is given to biodiverse green roof design, habitat creation, water sensitive design, and the relationships between urban and natural biodiversity and human use.
